The first Synthetic Biology IP Forum was held on 27 March 2026 at the Grand Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao. It was jointly hosted by Zhiwen Consulting and Zhichan Huicui, with guidance and support from the Shanghai Synthetic Biology Industry Association, and sponsored by Beijing Linktec IP Agency, Suzhou Sinofaith Zhishu Technology, TAYA IP and Beijing Guozhuan IP.
Under the theme "IP Driving Synthetic Biology Manufacturing", the forum attracted more than 150 experts, scholars and corporate delegates from across China. Attendees came from Beijing, Tianjin, Guangdong, Shandong and the Yangtze River Delta, with synthetic biology companies accounting for over 75% of participants, heads of leading domestic law firms around 20%, and a further 5% of overseas lawyers from Korea, India and Germany.
As the first professional forum dedicated to IP in synthetic biology, the event built a bridge between industry and intellectual property. Keynotes covered the state of the IP protection system for synthetic biology, making trade secret protection measurable, recent judicial developments in technical secret cases, patent strategy in plant synthetic biology, PCT filing practice and the Biobucks model. Two panel discussions addressed risk control and portfolio strategy for innovators, alongside a welcome dinner and exhibitor showcase.
